About Me

Michael Dunlap is the cofounder and executive chairman of Nelnet, a loan servicing and payment processing company based in Lincoln, Nebraska He started the company in the late 1990s with Stephen Butterfield (d. 2018). The two took the company public in 2003. Michael's son Matthew is the chief business development officer and serves on the board. His nephew Jason Muhleisen is the president and CEO of Lincoln's Union Bank & Trust, owned by the Dunlap family. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dunlap serves on the board of the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management.
