Luis Riu is co-CEO of Riu Hotels & Resorts, which he owns with his sister Carmen Guell, also a billionaire. The group, which operates 98 hotels in 21 countries, saw more than $4.5 billion in revenue and $150 million in net profit in 2024. Riu oversees the company's operations and expansion, both for its urban hotels and its Caribbean resort stronghold. He is a third-generation family member of the Riu hospitality empire, which he joined in the 1980s; he has since led its push into city hotels and all-inclusive luxury resorts. Riu also invests in new-build hotel projects in Mexico, the U.S., and Cape Verde.
